I hate that this course is mandatory. The material was unbelievably dull. It was essentially a history course that examines every single method of communication throughout time. The prof, Dr. Mussio, was awesome though. The three hour night classes are brutal, but his randomness and jokes make it enjoyable (somewhat).
There was attendance and participation (15%). Dr. Mussio only took attendance for one class. We were required to write a one or two page report on a movie we watched in class (worth 5% of this grade portion). Participation was based on our group presentation (on a chapter in the textbook) and a small (15 second or so) verbal explanation on what chapter we liked best in the book.
We had an essay outline worth 15%. We were required to choose a topic at the beginning of the term on a method of communication, and this was the topic we wrote about for both the outline and final essay.
The final essay was worth a whopping 35%. It was a 12-15 page paper that expanded on your outline.
The exam was also worth 35%. It was short answer, long answer and essay questions. It included everything from lecture and the readings.
