they should renew the contract b/c it also includes dasani , sprite , and some other stuff . at least the prices for those remain fairly constant on , and off campus (around $1.30-$2.00 for the 591mL bottles w/ tax) while the other 20% of the drinks stocked tend to be overpriced (i.e. FUZE @ $3.71/bottle vs. $1.59 at metro and the ODWELLA fruit smoothie drink @ $4.97/bottle) -- with the exception of milk . so if the coke contract isn't renewed , then 80% of the drinks on the shelf may be more expensive .

You know Coca Cola owns those over priced Fuze stuff too right, as well as the Odwella stuff?

no i didn't b/c those were fairly new additions to the selections on campus . in that case , the only thing that isn't owned by coca cola would be milk .

Hey!

Just a quick & MAJOR correction The question actually goes along the lines of:

"Do you want McMaster University or MSU to Sign an exclusivity contract with CocaCola" Or something similar along these lines.

I've talked to the Vp Admin Andrew Richardson about it and what this referendum essentially means is that IF the students say YES then McMaster and MSU will go ahead and sign a 100% exclusivity contract.

If they say NO then we will maintain the current 80-20 split contract.

Essentially this referendum can in no way Ban Coke from campus. All it decides is the exclusivity or not question.

Please take some time to think/rethink about the implications of the above post, that's all.

I would never want exclusivity, something about monopolies is scary to me.

If you people had any idea how much the university beneifts from the Coca-Cola deal you wouldn't be bitching.

They fund many student services and at one point, where paying for the full time wages of a student employee to work on campus to help student groups benefit from Coke.

Uhh, we aren't getting any benefits from Coke any longer, at least not according to the current contract(Even the one McMaster Admin went of and signed with Coke this late last year, which is 80-20). The 80-20 split deal doesn't include any significant benefits that the 100% deal does.

Also, the Coke Rep was paid for by the MSU and not Coke. You can take a look at MSU Budget sheets from a few years ago to clearly see that figure.

I'm also currently abstaining from saying my opinion on this until campaign period starts, I was just trying to clear a couple of things up.

I'm pretty sure nobody was "bitching" in this thread... actually it has been pretty subdued.
