Commons is being rebuilt?
I saw a group on Facebook called "Don't change the name of Commons to 'Centro' ". I read the info and it said that this summer they are tearing Commons down and rebuilding it. Does anyone have any info on this?

Not really...

Commons is being renovated over the summer, only the second floor marketplace area, they are making a completely new dining area since it hasn't been renovated since ~1993. It looks really nice, hopefully a lot better food than is currently served.

CENTRO, the new name of this new renovated dining hall is moving forward with a major renovation of the Commons Building, which creates a new and modern dining space with updates to lighting, flooring and the overall decor.
There's also a slideshow on the mcmaster website.

Is the price of food at Commons going to increase to help pay for these renovations?

Looks like there will be less seating :/

while the specialty places are nice, does anyone know why Mac doesn't have franchises (e.g. subway or taco bell) on campus? i've seen these at several other universities.

Renovations have nothing to do with food quality.

IMO, rather then wasting money on renovating something thats perfectly fine, why not upgrade our wireless internet or make our Labs better, was there any student input on weather or not this renovation is needed?

Two words: Hospitality Services.

@ReDorkulateD: They most likely won't get rid of any favourites, so although they don't mention it i can't see the buffalo wrap going away.

@Kathy2: They have been saving for the renovations for many years, there should not be a noticeable increase in price on food to pay for them, although if the food quality increases prices may increase accordingly.

@SciMania: I know they are looking into a Booster Juice location on campus, it really is just that hospitality has a monopoly and is looking to make the most money they can.

@lorend: Renovations have nothing to do with food quality true, but along with the physical changes we have been told there will be improvements in food in Centro. The idea is renovation and a revamp of the food offered.

@healthsci1: The money paying for the renovations is money from hospitality services, which does not pay for labs/internet. It is directly within their budget and not really applicable to anything other than food services on campus.

There was a lot of student input, the IRC Student Dining Committee spent months this year discussing and collaborating with Hospitality on the renovations, to ensure that the improvements would benefit students.

lol @ the Facebook group. Who cares what it's called? Some people have WAY too much time on their hands, and not nearly enough real topics to get riled up about.
