What Computer for Engineering?
I've always enjoyed using Apple laptops, not a big fan of PC's. :s
But going into engineering, I'm guessing that I'll have to get used to PC's. For general 1st year engineering, will I be able to use my macbook, or would it be better to buy a pc?

My roommate runs both windows and PC on his macbook. It works fine for him and he's in computer science (under engineering). I think you should give that a shot, it will save a lot of money too.

Everyone is getting macs. I assume you will be fine. PCs guaranteed will run anything (and almost always better) than a mac but the massive number of eng students with a mac should ensure you do fine.

Lots of people in first year eng use macs. So you shouldn't have a problem.

either dual-boot both OS or use a tool to emulate the window OS if you already have a mac (use virtual box for example I believe). Personally I prefer PCs but if you don't care about having better specs and already own a mac then not much of a point in buying a PC.

You WILL have difficulty installing some programs (aka just more effort). As you go into upper level years you MAY run into software that is non Mac. A Mac will do fine just more time/patience

Yes. It will do just fine. Perhaps there are some programs that you will need that aren't Mac compatible, depending on your specs & the minimum requirements of the program needed you may be able to dual-boot into Windows and run the program or even use a VM.

If anyone's considering Software Engineering (or CompSci), go for Mac/Linux. The normal situation is reversed, and you'll have a far easier time installing/running required software for upper years on Unix than on Windows.
