What computer programs are needed?
Most of the courses I'm taking include essay writing and presentations (including a few English courses), and I was wondering whether the original Microsoft Office bundle would be okay or if I'd need something a little more professional.

Microsoft Office would be more than enough. In the odd case you do need something better, there is always at least one computer lab or library on campus that would have them, and if there isn't you usually get the program at a discounted rate.
