Cores Labs and Tutorials
Hello everyone. I've just been wondering about my courses for the upcoming year...
Would it be better to have a tutorial after a lecture, or vice versa? I've heard that the labs aren't always related to the content being taught in lecture, so am I safe to assume that it doesn't matter if the lab is before the lecture?

Tutorials don't really matter unless you don't do any work. If you don't do any work then you'll want to have the tutorial after your class.
Labs are usually related to the content being taught in lecture. The pre-lab questions are generally easy and can be answered by just reading a page in your textbook. The lab work itself is just directions and you just follow them.

question: for bio 1a03, there are 3 lectures in a week and a lab. is it best to have the lab after the 3rd lecture, or anytime in the week.

There's one big formal lab report I remember of, which was sterilizing a chicken wing. I think the report was due the following week. Informal Lab reports are usually due on the day of the lab or the day after.

Thanks for the help. Also, when the timetable comes out in August, how difficult will it be to organize our timetable to our liking? I've noticed that many people have created mock timetables, and I'm wondering if the chances are high that people will get to have their ideal schedule.

I usually always get my schedule or something close to it. It takes some time though, usually up to when school starts.

Yep, I can almost feel the pain of putting my schedule together now... :(. But looking at the master timetable, some courses are offered only at one time, and it's some random time in the middle of the day *shakes fist*.

You get used to it though, it's my third time and I made my schedule in under an hour.

Oooh, what I meant was actually checking SOLAR constantly to grab the appropriate time slots. Making the mock is not as bad. I'm just afraid I'll be disappointed when I don't get the preferred times for all my courses, and my timetable ends up being even more disorganized.

Always make backup mocks and keep trying. 2nd/3rd choice schedules aren't always that bad; it's usually just finding something else to do between the breaks. First year classes tend to have a lot of options as well which is nice; gives you some freedom when picking cores/tuts/labs.

Haha, too bad I still have to wake up at 8:30 for classes for both semesters. Oh well, though.

More seats aren't opened due to room capacities, but any reserved seats that aren't taken will be available to everyone at this point.
