I AM CURRENTLY IN 1A03 MMEDIA, BUT HAVE RE-READ THE UNDERGRAD LEAFLET AND AM A BIT CONFUSED WITH THE TERMS USED. I AM IN COMBINED HONOURS POLITICAL SCIENCE & COMMUNICATION STUDIES. MY QUESTION IS IF I MUST TAKE 1A03 MMEDIA. I FEEL AS IF IT STATES I DO NOT HAVE TO BECAUSE I AM NOT IN MULTIMEDIA AND COMMUNICATION COMBINED HONOURS. I HOPE SOMEONE WITH GREATER KNOWLEDGE OF THE SYSTEM AND THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CAN HELP ME OUT. FINALLY, WHO WOULD I TALK TO AND WHERE WOULD I NEED TO GO TO GET THIS SORTED OUT?

Combined Honours in Communication Studies and Another Subject


Communication Studies is an academic discipline which encompasses many fields of inquiry. Graduates of this program will have an advanced knowledge of the nature, function and evolution of communication and will develop both practical and theoretical skills necessary to pursue careers in the field of communications.
Students wishing to enter this program must complete an application for admission to Level II on MUGSI in mid-March to be considered for admission.
ADMISSION
Completion of any Level I program and a Cumulative Average of at least 6.0 and a grade of at least B- in CMST 1A03.

Goce it would be helpful for us to see where you are quoting this information from. It seems as though you are looking at a Combined Honours program; but I'm not sure if it's "general" or if it's for CMST and MM.

Regardless, your best bet is to talk to a Humanities counselor, as that's the faculty you're in, and it's also the Faculty of the program in question.

I originally took it the same way you have, it does seem like this is for someone that is actually taking both communication and multimedia. I just hope I get an answer from the proper people prior to the deadline as there is a politics course I am anxious to take that is offered in the same time slot.

I am wondering if I am required to take MMEDIA 1A03 during second year as well

I am doing a combined honours Comm and Cultural Studies and I didn't take it first year--do we have to take it by the end of level 2 even if we aren't doing a combined honours with multimedia?

Okay so I had a random pop at your thing(Since I'm already doing similar stuff for alot of first years) and It appears that you do have to take MMedia 1A03, atleast according to the Calendar 09/10 here: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca/CALENDAR/current/pg1420.html
It clearly says you have to take MMedia 1A03 even if you major in CMST and another subject. That would be supported by viewing the page with JUST Honours CMST(alone), even there MMedia 1A03 is compulsory http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...nt/pg1419.html

But anyhow I would still highly suggest you email the Humanities faculty office, they should be checking their emails these days due to SOLAR openings and stuff.

You do have to take it. Depending on who is your prof you may not have a final exam, so that may be something you'd like about it. You don't need to have any multimedia skills to do well as they start from the very basics (some of the students last year didn't even know how to use computers).

Yes, you have to take MMedia 1A03 by the end of level 2 as stating in the first linkHuzaifa provided:

"MMEDIA 1A03 (must be completed by the end of Level II.)"
