Your transcript does break it down into terms (so fall/winter is one term, summer is another, etc).
And yes, taking a reduced courseload (ie, less than 30 units over the fall/winter term) can negatively affect admissions to many professional schools. Some require you to do well with a full courseload at least once, while others apply special weightings that allow students who have taken a full courseload every term to drop several courses (ex, UofT med school), while students who have taken a reduced courseload even once cannot drop any courses from their calculated GPA. It's best to look at exactly what you want to do and see if it will affect you/to what extent, since it varies so much.
