They generally save some slots, especially for first year courses, when the first years get to start choosing.

The courses aren't really full, it's just that they're not going to allow any more people to register, because they have to guarantee all the first year Kin students those courses.

The 1Y03 course is listed as a first year course so first years still get preference. The reason they "lock" these courses is precisely so that 4th years, 3rd years and 2nd years can't grab all the seats to use these as their electives and that 1st years still have a chance to pick the courses.

When you register as a first year, you will probably be able to access the course for 2 reasons:
1. You are a first year. It will likely appear "open" to you even if it appears "locked" to him.
2. You'll be registering in the first year time frame which is when first year courses in general will be open.

also, to make sure that you get the courses you want at the times you want, try to get ready to enter in mugsi 40 minutes before SOLAR opens for you. I had to choose my courses last night and I started at 1136 but I didn't get in until well after 12... luckily I got my courses then.

And what I meant by times, is the term you would like to take it.... The actual core, lab and tutorial selections are later.

I would probably have the sections also prepared just incase. Last year I had 1-2 courses that required me to pick my sections. This year I had 1 course that required that.

I don`t know what you're talking about. Kin 1y03 will be full as it always is (being a high demand course). Spots for first year kin students will be reserved in 1a03, but for 1y03 you're out of luck.

They have to reserve spots for 1Y03, what are you talking about? Think about it logically. It's a first year class, and non-kin first year students haven't picked yet - obviously there are reserved spots for them. As far as I know, the class doesn't consist of 1A03 first years, and 1Y03 2nd, 3rd & 4th years.

1y03 and 1a03 are the same course, taught at the same time, by the same instructors.

Reservations for students are usually only for students who require the course and there is often not x number of seats reserved for students of any year. I don't see why a first year would be more eligible for an elective course required by no program than a fourth year.

Kin 1y03 is usually a very difficult course to get into, even in 3rd year.

Kin 1Y03 spaces are reserved for BMRSc. students (why they don't enter them as 1A03 students is beyond me), but I'm pretty sure that some spaces aren't opened up until first year registration opens, otherwise there would be a lot less non-kin first years in the course.

I know that they are the same course, but registration for the course itself is split - which is why I don't understand why they wouldn't open seats for non-kin first years.
