courses selection for international student who gets high school education in China
i'm an international student and i'm confused about course selection. Since i got high school education in China, i don't know whether i can take some courses at mac. Like Math 1A03, its prerequisite is grade 12 vectors and calculus. I took these courses but i don't have these marks sepcificly. Because Chinese education system is different from the system here. We separate marks into terms but not into knowledge. Does anyone know that? is it the fact that all the students like me cannot take Math 1A03 and Physics 1B03 directly?

I believe that the general rule is that if you have a grade 12 credit in math and physics, you can take these classes. I don't think Mac would have accepted you if your credits were not valid.
However, you should contact your faculty/department and check about your situation specifically. Also SOLAR will let you know if you do not have the pre requisites for a course. When you hit "Verify changes and check conflicts" it should say "failed" under the pre requisite check.

all the Chinese students like me must have math marks and physics marks. Because if we don't have them, we won't be enrolled by Mac. Do you know someone has the same education background like me?

I have emailed to my faculty about the pre-req issue, I have given A Level Physics and Math and I wanna enroll in Physics 1B03, facing the same problem.
will keep updated, meanwhile you should also contact your faculty, as indicated in this year old thread

I know that there were some international students who had prereqs issues because Mac's system is too stupid to understand you've taken equivalent courses. Some of them had to send an e-mail to the registrar or call them to get pre-reqs "waived" lol. I guess that's what you need to do.

try the extension of your dean or undergraduate advisor. I talked to mine and he told me to call at 1PM to talk to the Student Counselor, I called...and got the answering machine :(

I am also an international student and having the exact same problem. SOLAR is not letting me pick any math courses at all, not one math course. It is saying that I do not have the prerequisites for it, which doesn't make any sense, given the fact I am an accepted student. Probably the Registrars Office did not do it job with entering the required data for SOLAR to let me pick my math course? I've sent dozens of emails so far, but no one seems to care and I only have 3 days left before SOLAR closes for me :(
lbjenny, is SOLAR letting you select any math courses?

ok, after lots of emails, i politely asked a person who was already helping me with another issue to forward this issue to the concerned people
she forwarded it to the undergraduate advisor of my faculty, you need waivers to select those courses since the computer does not recognize your international qualifications
