Crossbow killing at Toronto Library.
"TORONTO - An Ottawa man charged with first-degree murder following a fatal crossbow shooting at a Toronto library stared straight ahead and spoke softly during a brief court appearance Friday.
Zhou Fang, 24, was remanded in custody until Dec. 8.
Police say the victim, Si Cheng, 52, of Toronto, was shot in the back with a crossbow at the Main Street Library on Thursday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fang was arrested minutes later in east-end Toronto.
"We know this was not a random attack but it was a targeted attack. Both people know each other," said Toronto police Const. Tony Vella.
"We're still looking at the motivation behind the killing."
The use of a crossbow is "definitely a unique case in Toronto," Vella added.
"You hear about guns, you hear about knives being used, but you definitely don't hear about a crossbow."
The killing was witnessed by "a lot" of people in the library. However, Vella said they are still looking for other potential witnesses to come forward.
"Some counselling is being offered to the witnesses because it was obviously a traumatic experience for everybody involved," he said "

I personally grew up in Toronto and often used the public library for academic purposes but not in my wildest dream thought that something like this would occur.

I actually lol'd when i read the quote "The use of a crossbow is "definitely a unique case in Toronto". Yes, I know I'm a sad person but seriously guys, this is the first time i've heard someone using crossbow as a weapon!

So my fellow macinsiders, how safe do you think public libraries are in Ontario?

How does one even bring a cross bow in to the library without being noticed?

This is awful. Being killed by a bolt must be far worse than by bullet. I hope he gets the life sentence on this one.

Musta been because he dishonored the family name or something.
The crossbow must have had mystical and ancient powers or some sort.

Actually, he was shot in the back, not in the head, which means that he had sometime less than two minutes to feel the pain, until he died. You are correct, though that there is probably no difference in the pain level, because the same penetration of organs occurs in both scenarios, unless you factor the fact that an arrow would keep the wounds open.

EDIT: Yes, the article was updated, and it says that the victim was his father. That's terrible.

The bullet will let you bleed, so you die faster. A bolt plugs the wound (unless you rip it out which you are not likely in a state to do considering you have a bolt in your back), prolonging the pain.

maybe he thought a crossbow would be both effective and quiet instead of the deafening pop you'd get from a gun(i.e. more subtle, better chance of getting away). Either way he got caught so thats good.
