For a friend who applied this year, and did anyone get in with an average below the cutoff?

The lowest mark that I know of who got in is 81, which was most likely a really late acceptance.

Some acceptances are already out (started last week i believe), others will get their acceptance when the uni get their grades at the beginning of term 2 (high school term 2), so people can expect to hear from mac during mid February. The third cycle is from mid-late April.
The last cycle of admissions is in may,i think early to mid may and that's for programs likes health sciences.

i've heard of one case where the cutoff was 80 and the person had high 70s but a ridiculous amount of extra curriculars and school activities going on

I've never heard of any program/faculty that had admission chances effected by anything other than marks, with the exception of health science.
