if you want to be a passive user, put "Firewall, passive"

otherwise if you are at home with your own firewall, forward your ports and in dc++ choose "Direct connection" and add in the open ports you forwarded in the slots.

If you're using DC++ off campus and you set it up how it tells you on machub.dyndns.org, does it still use your internet bandwidth?

i.e. if i'm capped at 60 GB/month will it use that? Or does it just work as a network?

Yes, it downloads through the internet and hence uses your bandwidth.

does anyone know any good spots to plug in a ethernet cable and get into DC? I've seen a few but they are trashed and unusable.

This doesn't work anymore. The residence network and the ethernet plugs in the student center used to be integrated, but they have since separated them. The ethernet ports outside residence are now also MacConnect plugs and they won't go faster than wireless for DC.

Really sucks :(

I don't know... they were disconnected over a year ago at least.

And yes, DC++ works on MacConnect wireless since the server hub was moved off campus in April. You need to set your DC++ firewall settings to passive for it to work. As far as I know, it is slow since McMaster throttles macconnect. The highest speed I've heard of is 50 KB/s...
