The in-course awards make sense though. I thought there would only be a ceremony for in-course + Provost, which makes more sense to me.

In order to make the DHL there are some requirements and one of them is simply having a SA of 9.5 (in 30 units or more). I think the Provost kids get a ceremony regardless of whatever faculty their from because of the small amount of them so it would be feasible for the faculty (guess) to afford a ceremony. DHL on the other hand, probably varies year to year depending on how many people get it. Did you ever get to attend a ceremony for it (assuming you made it in the past).?

Nope, I've never received a certificate or anything but I've had > 9.5 before. I don't think there's much recognition in the science faculties for it.
I guess that's why it's surprising that there is (or may) be one for other faculties, I just assumed it didn't happen for the Dean's List.

Probably a lot of people in the Faculty of Science achieve a SA of 9.5 or greater. I wouldn't be too surprised if that were true. You haven't received a certificate before either? That sucks =/ If I got above 9.5 I would sure as hell at least like to get a certificate even if there were no monetary benefits involved. I thought everyone who made the DHL would get a certificate. D: !

Yeah, if you are in DHL in science and eng (probably some other faculties too), all you get is a line in your grade report/transcript stating "Deans honour list" under your CA and SA.

Yeah, I remember I got a certificate in 2nd year for making the list in 1st year but after that they've never contacted me again for the other certificates. I know it's just a piece of paper, but at least it something substantial which you can display if you are proud of it (compared to something on your transcript).

Interestingly when I was in the faculty of Commerce and got on the Dean's List, I received a letter from the head of the program + a certificate. Nothing from the Faculty of Science.

Yea there's a ceremony for the Provost kids as well as the first year kids who got the President's Scholarship from Grade 12. The Provost kids get a medal and I believe there is monetary compensation as well. It's a good place to network with profs and other students, but when I went I don't think they were expecting that many people to attend because it was really cramped.

Can anyone from the Faculty of Engineering comment on if they had a ceremony for the DHL kids last school year?

I remember for Humanities at least, there was an induction ceremony for getting in on the Deans List. An invitation was sent out by mail, which said congrats on getting on the Deans Honour List, and had info about the ceremony event, which was held on campus. Being faculty-specific, it was for students in Humanities, but I would assume other faculties do the same thing.
Those who are on the list get an official certificate for each of the year(s) they are on the Deans Honour List.

I'm actually really surprised that commerce averages are lower. My eng and management friends ace all their commerce courses and say its some of the easiest courses ever...
