Ohhhh! bring your own vacuum cleaner if you can. Or at least a portable one. I can't remember how many times people have asked to borrow my vacuum cleaner! The ones Mac rents are HUGE to lug around, especially upstairs.

And you look ridiculous carting them through snowdrifts in the winter.

Solution for not vacuming (I didn't all year and my room wasn't disgusting)

Find someone who has a wicked rolling plastic "Shark" thing. (Or borrow Mitch's vaccuum mwhaha) You hold it like a swiffer and the garbage just gets swept/forced into a little plastic tray that you can open. Sooo ballin. Also, tape on your hand works fantastically well. And make sure when you borrow a vaccuum from Commons you wrap it up properly, the vaccuum nazis behind the counter got my friends in trouble for that constantly.

Also, as for bringing stuff...biggest advice, if you think "Do I need this?" about something. For example when I brought two sets of cutlery...(Didn't open my plates or forks, ever.) By the end of Rez life, I had so much junk stuck in my room that I'd brought, PLUS all the stuff I accumulated during the year, that when I went to clean my room to move it out it was reaaaaaally tough.

Also, a lot of my problems were caused by the fact I lived 6 hours away and couldnt cart away my extra stuff.

hmm
now I'm definitely getting a small portable vacuum after reading this!

I vacuum my room at home constantly and it still gets kinda bad.
Doesn't help if you're awfully allergic to dust, does it? hmm

How much does it cost to rent the vaccuums?

It doesn't cost anything. There are only a limited number of vacuums per quad, so you'll have to wait until one is available. Then, you are given a limited amount of time to use it and bring it back.

30 minutes-ish.

Which...considering the 10 minutes you need to lug it to your room...and the 10 minutes back...you have to vacuum pretty speedily.

Hence why you should buy your own cheap little vacuum! I'm not sure where you can get a cheap one.. maybe Canadian Tire?

McKaila says thanks to Reno V for this post.

They're a bit longer than a normal twin bed.. you can use twin sheets no problem, but some stores (Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens & Things, etc) have special Twin Sheets for uni/college students.. but both work well

how big is the traditional quad room?
and also for the laundry.. do we need to bring quarters or loonies or both?
