How do you deal with stress?
I feel like because my parents pay for my schooling I am constantly under pressure to do well. I usually never share my problems with anyone, and the feeling of someone breathing down your neck constantly becomes overwhelming. Not even that... just the thought of my future and all the "what IFs" never leave my mind.

How do you guys cope with school related stress?

Try looking up mindful meditation. It's scientifically proven to help with stress and such. Have an open mind.

Either find a hobby, start meditating, or start abusing substances.

Hehe, i guess that doesn't apply to everyone but honestly there is nothing wrong with having a drink or a smoke at the end of the night to de-stress after a long days work. Or horrifically abuse a tub of ice cream, ice cream is a substance too.

In my life skills group I run I tell people to use distraction techniques to manage your stress. If you feel overwhelmed it's time to step back push everything into a box for a few minutes. In those few minutes utilize your five senses, do whatever you can to stimulate them. In some situations when you can't put everything into your box, you just have to practice radical acceptance (learning how to accept things that can't be changed) and push through it.

I don't agree with some of the suggestions here. Yes, there are many ways you can "de-stress". Have a drink, smoke a blunt, watch some porn, eat something tasty, etc etc. these are not productive ways of dealing with stress and often create more problems of their own when they spiral out of control or you become dependent on them.

From my experience, as cliche as it sounds, nothing has helped my stress more than exercise. Personally, I run and go biking, with my favorite music, outdoors in the evening when there's less traffic.

Everyone needs time to themselves and to have fun, regardless of how much work is piling up. If you don't take a break, then you can't move forward. If you're parents are making you feel guilty, then take your breaks discretely where they are not there to criticize you.

Also, realize that you can't control the future. You don't have omnipotent knowledge, and you can only do your best and hope it works out. And if it doesn't go as you planned, it doesn't. You're still going to be able to make ends meet and find happiness. Why worry when none of it matters really. You have one life, and at the end of a few decades, you're dead and everything u worked for gone. As cynical as it sounds, it's true. Everyone acknowledges this, but don't really accept the sheer magnitude of what it means until they get old.

Stay happy. You're health is what matters most, and stress is the root of all sickness.
