you dont need it to apply to those positions, but id say it would look good on a resume/contribute to an application (saying you got leadership skills/participated in stuff at mac) .. but if you dont go thatd still be fine, you have tons of other opportunities to participate in things at mac that would give you leadership skills (like clubs, IRC, etc)
...horizons was an awesome experience though i would suggest doing it because it was so much fun and kinda gave you a headstart on the whole mac/university experience

No, you do not need a specific set of experiences to be a CA. As I recall, they assess applicants based on their overall characteristics and what they can contribute to a residence community. This is one of the very few positions that really requires you to highlight your skills and traits as an individual versus simply sifting through resumes looking for a certain "type" of applicant.
Best of luck

Nope. To be a CA, there will be an application later on in the year as well as an interview process. While to be an Eng Redsuit, there will also be a creative component/interview later on. Horizons is just a fun leadership conference (optional) to get incoming first years acquainted with campus, meet new people, etc.

Not at all. I also wanted to go to Horizons before my first year but I ended up missing it. It didn't affect my CA application at all. During the CA application process it looks good when you have leadership experience but Horizons is not a requirement. Also when they assess you they look at your personality and what you bring to the interview as well as how you do in a group session.

I think the likelihood of being accepted as a redsuit is roughly proportional to your alcohol tolerance..

Community Advisor in this case but it also means Cumulative Average (which is your average gpa).

Just to elaborate on the CA/community advisor position, they're basically the residence life staff that live on your floor in residence. They hold the regular floor meetings, you go to them for any problems with room mates, etc.
