Does anyone know how the decision to Not Offer a Summer course is made?
I believe I will need to take ECON3G03 this summer so I can take certain courses next year. It wasn't offered last summer, and wasn't even offered this year second term. I emailed the department earlier today but they haven't responded yet. Does anyone know why some courses are offered / not offered in the summer? Do they have to be requested by students? Does anyone know of anything I could do to make sure this course happens? Thanks!

They have to have a prof available/willing to teach it and have enough students to make it worthwhile. There is nothing you can do to "make sure" the course is offered, particularly because it depends on the availability of a prof.

I have a follow-up question to that: can you suggest a course that should be offered? For example, there are courses on Kant, Aristotle, Plato, and Hegel, but none on Nietzsche. Would suggesting such a course make it possible for them to add it to the program or is that not how it works?

You can suggest it to the department, but then it's up to them. They'd need to design a curriculum, find a prof, ensure that there is enough interest, etc.

I would start looking for alternative universities to take the course. McMaster doesn't have the greatest selection of courses for the summer.
