Don't we choose the core lectures, labs, and tutorials on solar now?

Or is it later when solar gets re opened?

No, it's later on Aug 9th. Solar re-opens on July 9th, but you can only pick courses still, it's only in August that you pick sections.

SOLAR wont let you pick your cores, lect and tuts during your course registration. However, it will be open to students again sometime in August when you'll be able to view your time-table prepared by the university. Thats when you could get back on SOLAR and change things around according to you personal preference.
Dont worry about it now, however, i do recommend that you prepare a mock time table as it would be of at most help to you in future.
