Dress Code
So i have the ENG1P03 poster presentation and was wondering what the dress code is. Does it have to be a suit?

I got the same thing. It doesn't have to be a suit, just dress pants, shoes and a nice shirt. I don't think you need a tie.

Btw, it's so stupid how we have to have a dress code. I know its required in a professional setting, but we're not professional. Plus, I'm going to have to spend some money...

I think I'm just going to buy a suit, since I don't have one.

I'd say you should start getting used to it. You're going to be doing plenty of presentations like this in the next few years, and especially after. It's not "stupid", and you're in a professional engineering class, learning to be professional engineers... Having a suit and tie is about as smart for all of us, as a Civil Engineer owning a pair of steel toe boots, a computer engineer owning a computer, an electrical engineer with a multimeter.... And there's lots of others I can name off.

So I should just get a suit right ? How much do you think I should spend on one ? (With jacket, shirt, pants, tie excluding shoes)

If you know your measurements, you can apparently get really nice suits from ebay for really cheap. Be aware you might need to make a few alterations still.

Buying a cheap off the rack suit? A couple hundred, at least. You can always go nicer if you want. You'll have to buy the shirt and tie separately, but I think they would be available at most stores that sell suits. Buying cheap, you could probably get the tie and shirt in one of those packages for like 20 dollars. You'll probably need to get alterations made to at least the pants, which isn't that expensive, maybe 10 dollars.

I just went and bought my second one Moores has a RIDICULOUS sale on, year end sale. The vast majority of good suits is 50% off, and a GREAT suit will go for $100-$200. You could walk out, with shoes, dress shirt, and all the rest for $300 if you're smart about it. If you have some of the stuff already, just go with that. Don't go getting anything too fancy either. Sport jacket will feel more comfortable than the suit jacket.

I <3 SUITS

Bear in mind also, a suit isn't necessarily needed for 1P03. Many groups just get the dress pants or khakis and a dress shirt with or without tie. Either one will work for a couple years in eng.

I do not support the antiquated dress style of 'suit'. Neither should you! Be a rebel!
