Driven: Beyond Boundaries Information Session

Interested in becoming a volunteer for Driven: Beyond Boundaries? Attend one of the following four information sessions to find out about our exciting youth programs and volunteer opportunities:

Thursday, October 8th (Mills Library, L310/E)

Info Session #3: 7:00-7:30 PM
Info Session #4: 7:30-8:00 PM

Attending an information session is not mandatory, but we strongly encourage that you do in order to:

- Learn about the different youth programs being run this year.
- Meet the program leaders and learn about the expected commitment for the upcoming year.
- Find out about the application process.
- Ask us questions.

Program Overview:

Driven is a collection of free, volunteer-run engagement initiatives for youth in Hamilton. It contains six components, all geared to different learning-styles and youth groups. The components are:

1. The Community Homework Club. An after-school academic assistance and counseling.
2. Cheza. A summer sports and leadership camp.
3. One Act Project. A community theatre workshop encouraging youth to use dramatic expression to explore local issues.
4. Day @ Mac. An exploration of post-secondary educational opportunities for underprivileged Hamilton youth through a visit to the McMaster campus.
5. Life After High School Workshop Series. A series of workshops on how to effectively pursue post-secondary options (university, college or sustainable work) aimed at youth in Hamilton.
6. ChallengEd. A series of experiential learning opportunities for those who live outside of poverty, to help break down stereotypes and barriers that impede real progress from being made.

All these programs will have mentorship, awareness and leadership elements built into them. Upon finishing, empowered youth will be encouraged to take what they have learned back to their communities. Driven very much reflects CURE’s philosophy of community renewal through youth engagement.
