To Drop Physics 1b03?
Hey everyone!
So I'm in a big dilemma. I recently got back my physics 1b03 midterm mark back and i did very bad. I got failed by quite a bit. I studied hard and did all the practice tests and questions posted by the profs. I never took physics in high school and only took physics 1l03, so I'm really struggling in the course. The thing is I don't just want to pass, I need at least a sixty in this course for a prerequisite for professional school in the states. I'm just scared that I won't even get that. I'm willing to get a tutor now and try even harder but I don't know if even after that I can manage a 70 on the final. The question is, should i drop it and take it in the summer even after completing it almost halfway? and Is the final a little easier than the midterms?

Btw the last day to drop courses is March 15th!

the final is pretty hard. labs, capa, iclicker are all mark boosters but if u did bad on the first midterm too then itll be tough to get above 9 or something. 7-8 is possible if u do well on the final, but the material on final is harder than midterm.

edit: nvm they changed it to 1 midterm only this year. well then unless u did real bad on labs and stuff (which i doubt) then u should head into exam with like 60-70 so if you study well for the final, you can easily pull off a 60 in the class.

I'm in the same boat. I need a full year of physics for the medical schools i want to go to in the states & considering i didn't do well on the midterm, i'm dropping the course and taking it at ryerson.

the thing is I studied hard for the midterm but still did really bad. so it worries me what my mark will be on the exam then esp if its harder

To bobsingh: i was thinking about doing that too. is physics at ryerson four months or two months like at mac?

My cumulative GPA is an 11.7 (not trying to brag), and I got an 8 in 1B03 (only single digit grade). The final is MURDER. People walk out demoralized as hell.

I'm in the same situation as you mikii7. I studied super hard for the midterm, only to get a very low fail. I have no idea if I should drop the course or stick it out.

I think you are better off dropping it, if you think you are going to barely pass the course. Because if you plan on taking the course again if you don't do as well this time, they take the average of your two grades. I was in a similar predicament last year, and I wish I dropped it when I had the chance :(

This is a difficult situation, but let me just say that dropping a course isn't going to look very good to any med school, grade-wise or character-wise.
EDIT: Professional school/grad school

If you drop it before March 15th, no one will know the course was taken as it was dropped before the academic penalty deadline. As for taking it at ryerson, my friend recently took it there & he said it was a joke. Its a two month course so its not a bad idea from my perspective.

Academic penalty means failure by default. If you drop now it'll still show up on your transcript as cancelled. If you don't want it on your transcript, it needs to be dropped by the "drop/add deadline", ie the last day before financial penalty.

I took this course last year, first term. I got 10/15 on the first midterm, 8/15 on the second. Did really well on the labs. I don't know what my exam mark was, but I ended up with a 10 in the course, even after almost failing the second midterm. It all depends on where your strengths lie. The final is a lot more concept-based (at least, it was last year), which is what I tend to be better at. The midterms had a lot more calculations, which was where I stumbled.

What made the midterm so difficult?
