Physics..should I drop?
Ok so Im a first year in Lifesci and am having trouble with physics 1ls3. Don't get me wrong its not hard, its really easy, bu it seems like a waste of a mark if I don't get a 12 in it. I wanna apply for med and don't want to screw up my GPA. If I drop, cab I take again next semester? Will I have to pay extra? and if I don't drop, how much of an emphasis is put on first year GPA in regards to medschool

Considering you have to take Physics 1B03 I don't think you should drop it. Plus if you drop it you won't have a full course load and that looks worse than having a slightly bad grade in first year.

According to the master timetable, its offered next semeseter. If you drop, you'll lose a majority of your course fees, but the cost next sememster should be the same.

Regarding medschool, you should inquire to specific medschools to understand how and what they care about for admission.

If you drop now, and take it next semester, you'll impact your other courses because you'll be taking one extra course, which will tend to make you do poorer in all of them because of the increased courseload.

I also don't agree with the statement 'its a waste of a mark if i dont get a 12 in it'.

Check out studentawards or other academic sites for the answer to the medschool question if nobody here replies.

-_-
If you drop it you will only have four courses this term, which means this semester basically becomes useless.

Also, if it's "really easy" as you say, why not just get 12 in it without any effort?

Dropping it wouldn't be a very good decision. You lose money, you have to take 6 courses next term, this term becomes useless, and you're dropping one of the easiest courses in science.

and by now doesn't it turn into a "Cancelled" on your transcript? I know nothing about med school so I don't know if that's bad

so are you planning on dropping every single class you don't think you're going to get a 12 in for the next 4 years? because if so, good luck with that.

spyridm says thanks to macbaby07 for this post.

Don't drop it...not a smart move, you need physics for med school anyway, "suck it up" and get it over with, getting a 12 isn't essential, like it was said above, if you're going to drop every course you don't get a 12 in, you won't have many courses left. University's tough, it's not high school, you're not going to do well in everything.

You'll be fine, just try your best and get the thought of dropping it out of your head. Waste of money, effort and brain cells.

... not to mention U of T med school drops your lowest 2 marks every year if you take a full course load every year- if you drop something you completely lose that benefit and Western only takes your best 2 years... all med schools have different standards for admissions so you can't really answer your blanket question
