Droping a course after last day to drop?
The last day to drop a course was March 15, but what happens if you drop a course after this date?

You can't drop a course after the drop date.. You might as well write the exam at this point.
It would appear as an automatic fail on your transcript.

No, dropping is before the last date for financial penalty, usually two weeks into term. After that and until the last date to drop without academic penalty (this year it's Mar15), it's called "cancelling" and that's when it shows up on your transcript as cancelled.

After that date, if you drop the course then you fail it.

I'm not sure if it shows "cancelled" AND "F", or if it just has the "F".

if you're thinking of trying to cancel a class Do Not write the exam. If you have to petition your department to cancel and have written the final it will be a lot harder.

I called into the registrar office and they actually told me that you cannot drop a course at all after March 15th (the last day to drop a course) which I always thought you could.

starfish says thanks to rizzutja for this post.

Probably because you fail anyways...so whether you're registered (and do no work) or not, it doesn't matter.

That does answer my question about showing up as CAN + F or just F though...if you can't physically drop it, it would just show up as an F on your transcript; there's no indication that the failure was because you dropped the course and not because you failed academically.

You CAN drop classes after the date without failing the class. sort of.
You have to petition for retro-active withdrawal.
You can do this if you haven't complete a large portion the course work, especially the final and if you have some sort of good reason. it appears as cancelled on transcript, no F
