Dropping orgo/not having full course load
Hey, I'm currently considering dropping Organic Chemistry 20B3 because I deffered the 20A3 exam and my 20B3 midterms on the same day as my biochem 2ee3 midterm + orgo lab. Basically, i don't wanna risk my mark in my other classes and i want to get a high gpa. Does anyone know how medical schools/grad schools view not having a full course load + having "cancelled on my transcript" (read that it shows up as CAN on transcript), or any advice on taking online courses? I plan on possibly taking an online course with Athabasca, would that be considered a full credit semester or does anyone have an advice for alternatives??

Thanks

If you're scared of dealing with biochem 2EE3, then med school might not be for you. Orgo looks a lot easier and more straight forward this semester than last, and there is much less ambiguity on what to study. What U of T says " If your transcript has gaps, course withdrawals, or if you carried less than a full course load, please state the reason in the OMSAS Essay 1."

Mac is fine with a not full course load.
Ottawa wants it. It depends from school to school.

not so much biochem as opposed to having to focus the exam for orgo 2oa3 in addition to studying for orgo 2ob3 midterm + biochem and having my lab

hmm biochem 2ee3 first midterm is very easy and you sit beside other people for that midterm in the lecture hall....most people cheat on it and the first test is a lot of review material too so biochem shouldnt be a worry

Eh, the thing is - medical school doesn't exactly get easier, y'know what I mean? If you can't handle taking a full course load/fulfilling the prereqs, are you sure you'll be able to handle medical school? Not trying to make fun of you or anything, but really think about whether or not going through medical school (which is definitely going to be harder than taking a regular second-year course load) is really something you can conceivably do. And if your answer is yes, then you should be able to handle orgo and biochemistry.

Expect worse in med school.

I understand that it takes higher marks to get into med school than to stay in med school, but really, the situation you're describing should still be doable.

As someone already said, different med schools have different course load requirements. You should look into those, but be aware that you'll be putting yourself at a disadvantage for some schools by taking a reduced courseload.

i plan on taking a course w/ athabasca so i would still be considered to have a full courseload, althoughdoes anyone know how having 'CAN' for cancelled on a transcript affect grad schools?

also, does anyone know if i would still be able to use this years gpa as one of my top 2 for med schools like western if the course is included in my courseload? although its pass or fail for the credit apparently i could send grad schools my transcript so they know my actual mark
