				dumbphone + iPod touch

hey guys, i've been looking for a smartphone for a while now to get me out of my dumbphone nightmare. the thing is, pretty much every good smartphone out there forces data on to their plans, but i can't have data because then the plan gets too expensive. i want a good phone, with a good number of apps, wifi, decent battery life, but i don't want data/long term contracts. understandably, i've found nothing like that

so i was thinking, what if i get an ipod touch (kinda like a smartphone without the phone) and keep my dumbphone for calls, messaging? it's kinda like dividing a smartphone among 2 devices, i would be saving a good deal of money while still getting the job done and without compromising on a whole lot. an added upshot is that i still have my old ipod nano (2g, present value, approximately $0), which i can trade in at futureshop for a $50 discount on the ipod touch. i just want to know if this is a good idea or not. is there anyone out there who has an ipod touch+dumbphone who can tell me how it works out?

Good idea because essentially you are carrying two battery which means you can do things alot longer.

Bad idea because your pocket would be full with the added wallet unless you are a girl and carry a purse.

If you don't want data or contract then just BUY the phone outright.

Like if you want a iPhone 4 but no contract or data, go to Apple Store. $650+taxes and its your.

Or buy it used! iPhone 4 can be have for $500 if you search!

This also applies to Android stuff...

Go with telus. The hero and desire do not require data plans.

Just buy the smartphone used or refurbished. There's a ton of places. But make sure you check if it's good. Also, just keep your ipod for songs - that saves some of your battery life.

Buy BB Bold or Motorola Milestone on Wind and get this plan = Problem solved (toss Wind Tab in there and the BB Bold is only $300)

Go to the store in Jackson Square mall.

Bring your old invoice from old cell company if you want to port your number over.

That is it.

Thanks a lot man, wouldn't even have thought about the invoice.

I was checking out the motorola milestone, and it's got bad reviews... :(
Like, the manufacturer doesn't even support android 2.2 and onward? Argh, thats the only phone that realllly intrigues me from wind.

Milestone is the Droid. Which was good at the time of release but now are overshadowed by newer offering. Still a good budget phone. Will beat your old crappy handset for sure. Will even beat my BB Bold 9700.

Which review are you looking at? I trust Phone Arena and would recommend you to watch their video review which is here
Are you set on joining Wind RyanC? I thought you wanted a more reliable network ala Rogers?

People that are joining Wind need to keep in mind that for indoor signals, Rogers still reign supreme. You have to realize that Wind is new and need time to become more stable. I just don't want people to hop on and be disappointed.

I'm just considering it as an option. I'm just annoyed with my basic phone an inability to keep all my messages to be honest, but I don't want to get some random expensive phone I'll end up not liking, when my phone, other than the message thing, is decent for my purposes. This has more to do with being impulsive, rather than having a reason to switch.
