Election Ballot Totals (1st round) Get Updated
After Jerimi posted the corrected ballot tallies from the previous CRO on the Facebook group (covered in the previous post), which he said he was e-mailed yesturday, the results on the official MSU Elections website were updated as well. Why these corrected results were not put up on the Elections website earlier remains unknown. The new results from the first count explain a discrepancy that was found between the spoiled and abstain ballot numbers.
The high number of spoiled ballots (originally listed as 245) was corrected to 107, which is much closer to the number in the second count which is 123. The error is explained as coming from incorrectly adding abstention ballots from Leavitt’s vote to the spoiled column.
Official explanation:
Quote:
The following are corrected ballot results received from former CRO Mike Tufts. The discrepancy in spoiled ballots between the first and second counts is due to the abstain ballots from the redistribution being placed in the incorrect column (spoiled) in the first count.

This changes some of the original questions regarding spoiled ballots becoming 'unspoiled' in order to give more range between the winning tallies. The corrected numbers puts the first count at a lower level than the second, meaning that
more ballots became counted as spoiled in the second re-count, and not the other way around.
