Electives(ComSci1F03 and Econ 1B03)
Can anyone who has taken ComSci 1FC3 telling me what you do in that course?

Also i would like to know about econ 1B03 because i keep hearing different things?
I have done well in calc and functions but i found data challenging, would i find this challenging as well
how much of the course is actually economics and how much of it is math or graphing?

thank you!

Haven't taken comp sci 1F03, but I think it teaches logic, so it is like the most mathematical approach to computer science. Some people find it ridiculously tough, some understand it so well it's an easy 12.
For econ 1B03, it is generally easy for the most part if you put in some little effort. It's basically grade 12 econ if your school offered that. Some definitions, and some math, though the math is nothing hard. If you did well in calc and functions, then this should be easy for you since first year econ doesn't involve calculus at all

I think you mean Comp Sci 1FC3 by "ComSci 1F03", unless you're talking about something completely different.

Econ 1B03 is definitely a LOT easier than Comp Sci 1FC3 - even though I got a 10 in Econ and 12 in Comp Sci. I had to work my ass of for Comp Sci and I was pretty sure I'd be getting a 4 or something at the end of the course, so that 12 really, really surprised me. I'm sure the prof had to shift the marks upward or something, because a lot of people were having a hard time with that course. Econ on the other hand I never studied for and hardly paid attention to and got a 10.

I have never taken an economics course so i don't know how well i would do thats why i was leaning more toward the graphing on computers course i took a computer science course and didn't like it but it was mostly programming and the description for comsci 1fc3 doesn"t seem to have much programing in it... am i wrong?

It is less about programming but more about the mathematics in terms of Computer Science and Computing in general. I think it will be really dry course with a lot of proofs and whatnot included in it.

1FC3:

Comp Sci 1FC3 is all discrete mathematics, so you're exactly right. Full of proofs, logic, theorems, axioms, etc.

It's incredibly dry and most people do incredibly badly, but it's heavily curved to make up for that.

As an elective, there's now way in hell I'd ever recommend taking it, but to each their own.

Edit: Oh, and it says math, but it's not math in the classical sense, no numbers, it's all logic.

What if you're good at logic?
Do you have to memorize proofs of like 2-10 pages? D:

Well if you're good at logic prepare to challenge that belief.

And yeah you have to memorise all of them, these two are the lists from last year:

http://www.cas.mcmaster.ca/~kahl/CS1...ThmList-M2.pdf
http://www.cas.mcmaster.ca/~kahl/CS1.../ThmList_F.pdf

Although we were given semi-blank versions to fill in:

http://www.cas.mcmaster.ca/~kahl/CS1...emiBlank.p df

Also, the course website from last year: http://www.cas.mcmaster.ca/~kahl/CS1FC3/2011/

Indeed it is, but don't stress too much, it's passable, they can't fail the entire Comp Sci year.
