This question may have an obvious answer and if so, I'd appreciate hearing it anyway.
When the Blackboard team first realised that they couldn't handle the volume in September and went through those wonderful weeks of 'tweaks' ...what happened to crash it again?
It's still the same volume. In fact, ELM handled well during the exam period, when most students would be on it more than ever. Why the lag now?

It used to be in the announcements on the main ELM splash page, but I can't seem to find it anymore as there doesn't appear to be an announcement archive.

Anyways, the jist of it was that ELM initially consisted of two seperate modules joined by a third piece of software. The main module (the one you see now) is what is primarily in use, and the second module was apparently supposed to be for expanding ELM and increasing the usability and capabilities of the site. Apparently the third "joining" piece of software was causing a lot of problems not just at Mac, but at most other schools where it was implemented as well. They decided to remove the "joining" software and the second module, which has left us with what we have now. Apparently they're still dealing with the effect of that change.

How did they make it work from September onward, last term?

I'm not sure how it worked exactly. Obviously it worked fairly well after they dealt with certain problems, but I think it was the multitude of issues at other schools which caused Blackboard to decide to remove the software from all schools. It therefore doesn't really matter how well it worked here at Mac because Blackboard removed the software across the board.
