You work in a computer lab: that much is provided. that's used for your labs and your final project.

But you will need a laptop to do anything outside of regular lab time

All labs are done in a computer lab which has Solid Edge installed. For extra practice you need your own laptop/desktop.

If your computer at least has a discrete video card/processor (i.e. not one of those intel integrated pieces of crap), you should be able to run solid edge pretty decently.

Basically through the semester all you need is lab time to do everything (more or less). At the end however you`ll have a big group project where you`ll need a lot of outside time.

You can use the computers in the main engineering building to do some modeling but basically any new-ish laptop can run the software (which is free btw so don`t bother buying the book for it).

I have one of those "integrated pieces of crap" and I've never had trouble running Solid Edge.

Maybe the newer integrated pieces of crap work better .

I remember my partner on the project had one of the older macbooks, and it lagged like no other when trying to rotate an object.
