Engineer 1P03 midterm
How can I prepare for Engineer 1P03 midterm? What kind of questions are asked? Is the mid-term easy?

All I can say is, don't take the questions too literally. A lot of people got screwed over by questions like the following (I don't remember pretty much anything from 1P03, so I'm just going to just write a similarly formatted question):
"What's similar between cookies and biscuits?
a) They are both delicious
b) They both contain the letter 'i'
c) Only one is edible
d) None of the above"
Now a lot of people last year chose to take these types of questions too literally and went with answers like 'b)', even though a) is the correct answer.
In all honesty, I think you'd have to be pretty dumb to go with that (Fleisig obviously isn't testing your spelling skills). A lot of people complained to him claiming that answers like 'b)' are also right...
So my advice is:
DON'T CHOOSE THE STUPID ANSWER THAT IS 'TECHNICALLY' RIGHT!
Also, make sure you study the code of ethics and understand it. It's given to you on the test, but it's a lot easier if you understand it beforehand.
Good luck!

So is it just the PEO code of ethics that we have to read and understand for the mid-term?

Umm, to be honest, I can't say I really remember. I think he also tested us on everything we learned up to that point (everything on the slides).
Did Fleisig give you the sample test from previous years? If not, I *may* be able to get it off my webct account from last year, assuming that course hasn't been removed yet.

well, there is a sample final exam that he has put up but not a sample midterm paper. i am guessing, that the final exam will contain a lot more material, right?

Perhaps. I don't remember the midterm much. All I remember is that the final exam seemed easier.
Oh and another tip; don't waste time reading the book word for word. Just memorize all the tables and bolded definitions (there aren't too many as far as I remember).
The book contains a lot of useless filler that can be skipped, and it's next to impossible to read it anyway without falling asleep.

know how much the midterm is worth in your final grade (that was an actual question last year) . On a serious note, all the material in class, specifically the situations (eg. Ford Pinto [not sure if that was on the final or midterm]) made up a lot of the questions on the midterm.

So does it mean, that if one hasn't attended 1P03 lectures, he is doomed for the mid-term?

Not entirely. Just skim through the textbook, read the course outline (grade scheme etc), and if there are any lecture notes just go through those. I found the midterm relatively easy and I didn't prepare all that much for it either. Good luck and dont stress

I know it has changed, but in my year it was questions from course content, but not too specific.
Like we had a speaker in one class about how they can take tones and stuff out of phone calls to hear the person. The question was something like "911 has a call they need to interpret...."
a) this can be done
b) this cannot be done
c) engineers do not help the police
I remember it because that always made me laugh

This is probably a bad question at this point in the class, but when you say "the textbook," which one is that? B/c i think i have a couple for that class, but havent really used any of them. Is it that "Engineering Design: A Project Based Introduction" one? Oh, and what about the custom courseware booklet?
