evening courses & look over my choices?
Hi everyone!

I'm new here and I just had an epic battle with MUGSI and SOLAR. After 2 hours, I have finally added most of the courses I wanted. I wanted to enroll in Anthrop 1A03 2nd term and I did! but it's evening... and I'm not sure how late evening classes are... anyone know?

& if any kind soul can please look over my course selection and tell me if surviving 1st term will be problem, that would be much appreciated! (I have 6 courses in first term ><")

1st
BIO 1A03
CHEM 1A03
PSYCH 1X03
MATH 1A03
KINESIOL 1Y03
GERONTOL 1A03

2nd
BIO 1M03
CHEM 1AA3
PHYSICS 1B03
ANTHROP 1A03 (evening)

also.. I want to ask... can you take more than 10 courses a year? (not including summer).

THANKS for reading!

It's 7pm-10pm.

Never had 6 courses in a term before. But I think it's possible, it'll be hard work though.

You can take more than 30 units if you overload. You need permission to overload which requires a 7.0 SA the year before.

I've had night classes that were officially 7-10 PM; however, some profs finish lectures at 9 PM at the latest and often finish earlier than that.

I've had six courses in a term twice (once in first year, once in 3rd year), it's not that bad as long as you manage your time.

Yeah, I think those classes are actually only 2 hours long. They book 3 hours for night classes though. That's what I think, because Bio 2EE3 is a night class this year and it's scheduled 19:00-22:00, but it's only supposed to be 2 lectures.

Haha, with Ullal he just ended the class if he thought we were bored/tired. He told us he would never go longer than 2 hours even though there are normally 3 lectures per week.

What an awesome prof.

I would recommend taking 5 courses each term rather than having it unbalanced like that, especially because you probably don't want to overload your very first term at Mac. Of course, it works out for some, but if you can, it might be better to have it balanced. For example, I'm not sure if it fits necessarily, but Gerontology 1A03 is definitely offered in 2nd term.

The reason why some people in non-engineering programs have overloaded terms is that they took courses that are only worth 3 units but the course is full-year.

Not always...I'm pretty sure in general, profs teaching night classes want to end earlier, but not all of them go for only 2 hours. I took a night class last year and most classes went from 7 pm - 9:45 pm, although the prof did get lazy at the end of the year and started dismissing us closer to 9:30 .

But was it a 2 lecture course or a 3 lecture course?

It was a 3 lecture course.

It's just that I have seen some evening classes scheduled for only 2 hours before (e.g. for this year, English 1B03, term 2 and Comp Lit 2G03, term 1). But many are scheduled for 3 hours even though the course might only be 2 lectures/wk...I see what you mean...Some profs might do that so they have extra time in case they need it.

Yeah, my English class last year was scheduled for 2 hours. I really hope that the prof doesn't use all 3 hours.
