Expired food being used @ centro??
Sooooo we're in 2012 now, but today i saw ham dated with the expiry date of Aug 2011 being used @ centro (on-campus rez food place)...
is this something we should be worried about? Is that expiry date even significant enough? Perhaps this is just a one-time situation? Or is it just a small portion of a much larger picture? I'm just curious as to what others think.
(btw if u go now, you might still see it, its that place that sells fries, and its on the right side of the counter, where omlettes are made)

You should bring it to the attention of the chefs at that station.

I always check expiry dates. It's not only centro. It can happen anywhere. I bought juice at the Hospital Cafeteria it didn't look right and I didn't even notice till a friend pointed it out. Turned out to be expired.

They probably assumed it was a 'Best Before' date instead of an 'Expiry' date.

this isnt the first time, ive seen expired food used and on sale plenty of times at centro and even at la piazza. its best to check the expiry before buying anything any ways. also is it not illegal/not allowed for restaurants and food places to use expired goods in their menus or sell things which have or contain expired foods? i would assume this is a safety hazard as clearly the food has an expiry date for a reason - cus its probably gone bad by then or will go bad soon. someone should definitely bring this up with hospitality and the MUSS.

go to a grocery store... there's expired food all throughout the store... sometimes it just gets passed over or food doesn't get rotated. Let them know any theyll get rid of it.

You sure it was a best before date? It might actually be the date it was manufactured.

Optimist: I doubt your health will be negatively impacted, and the sanitary conditions that the food is produced, transported and prepared far outweighs any health risk
Realist: You're lucky you even get food to eat.. poor people in other countries--blah blah blah

Actually your health can be negatively impacted and you could get food poisoning from the expired food, it could be a big problem.

If it was an expiry date, I would think as long as it was frozen it would be fine. Coming from a small town surrounded by country, I know of some people who had large freezers and they would get all of the meat from a cow and their family would eat the meat over the span of a year. Also, when I was in first year I never got sick from eating campus food and never heard of it happening to anyone.

In first year me and 3 friends all went to that pizza place (the old one, before the remodeling)
3 out of the 4 people ordered chicken on their pizza...
3 out of the 4 people were sick with food poisoning that night.
When we brought it up with them, they basically pulled the "you can't explain that" meme.
...Thank god I don't like chicken on pizza.
