Extremely good English course electives now in Mac!!
Hi, I'm thinking of taking Essay component course, such as English. I am really not good at writing essays, but I need it for Med School. In grade 12, I barely had a 78 average with all the hard work I put in!!
So I was wondering, If you guys know any English courses, which you can recommend. I don't like to remember dates (history), I think I can do with Shakespeare with those spark notes books. I would love to take a course on media, like Hollywood and stuff. What about religions? I am not really looking for a good mark, I know it will bring down my average. But, I'm ready to take the risk.
Also, are linguistics and English courses related?
Thank you.

Linguistics is more like studying the origins or english and how to sound it out, write it, etc.
Check out a course outline, it will help

Make sure that your medical school accepts the type of English course you are taking.

Linguistics is the scientific study of language -- there are no essays, only assignments, and even they don't require any writing, it's straight application of concepts in problem sets (sort of like math). If you need an English course for med school, I would suggest English 1A03 (Shorter Genres), as I hear that it is quite possible to do well. If you need a full-year of English, I would take both 1A03 and 1AA3 (Longer Genres). These will definitely be acceptable for med schools and would probably be the preferred course as they're straight up English and force you to refine your writing skills.
Even if English is not required for med schools you wish to apply to, keep in mind that strong writing skills are essential for a component of the MCAT. Thus, you are making a wise decision in taking challening classes to improve your skills. I'm sure if you put forth the effort, you will do well, despite the fact that writing is not your forte.
