Campus health clinic appointment -> checkup -> get notice -> miss exam -> go to the deferral office in gilmour hall -> submit form -> hope for approval -> get letter for the date and place of exam later (like May or something) -> Appear in exam.

That's as best as I could recall what I did last year.

I might've also gone to the Eng student advisor in JHE to ask about it but it was after I missed my exam too.

I have a question. How competitive is a spot in the Engineering Physics program during Year 2? What should my average be in year 1?

Engineering Physics is one of the more "less popular" disciplines (That doesn't mean you shouldn't go into it because of that though) and most likely you'll get in if you choose it as your first choice for second year. In order to stay in engineering (and make it to second year) you have to maintain a 4 average, which is equivalent to a C-.

You don't get very many electives in any stream of engineering. From what I've heard though, there's less programming in Eng Phys than in, say, electrical. I can't really compare with other fields though since I didn't bother learning anything about them; I was hell-bent on electrical since the moment I came here.

You don't get much freedom in terms of choosing which courses you take, everything is pretty much laid out for you. You can check here:

http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...12/pg1217.html

This will tell you what you'll take in each year.

Chemical Engineering is usually one of the more "popular disciplines" so there will be some competition to get into it. The GPA, however, changes every year (due to demand/interests), there's a post somewhere on these forums that show the GPA for last year's cutoff. I'll post it here when I find it (or if someone else finds it, please post), but to give you a rough estimate I would say around a 5.5-6.5 (C or C+).

Edit: Here's the list that I found, it's completely unofficial but it'll give you an idea of what the averages were last year. Again, these averages change EVERY year due to demand and interests and will NOT be the same in your year.

Chemical Engineering:4
Materials Engineering:4
Computer Engineering:4
Electrical Engineering(SURPRISIN GLY):4
Electrical and Biomedical:6.2
Management Programs(Highest):6.5
Mechanical Engineering:6.4
Civil(Structural):6.3
Mechatronics:5.0
Software(All programs):4.0
Engineering Physics:4.0

- So I was off by a few points, normally Chem Eng is up there with the other programs in terms of popularity. However, these averages seem lower than most years. In my year, the cut-off for management was around a 7.5 (B). Hope this helps!

As already mentioned, it changes from year to year depending on how many people apply to it but 2 yrs ago, a number of my friends got in with just a 4(C-) which is what you need to stay in eng anyways...

Oh and Chem end has the most number of girls :p...some motivation right there.lol
