Failed a Pre-req in summer school
Hi ,
I'm a life sci student and i took math 1ls3 for the first time last summer semester and have most likely failed it. Math is my biggest weakness and not only was i terrible at it but it seems like the class was also not having a great time with the class avrge of 55% going into the final. I'm also positive that the exam definitely lowered the class avrge further more. With all that said and done, math is a pre-req for my program and my acceptance into a 2nd year program was conditional upon completion of math 1ls3. What do i do now ? I have lost all hope , would i be kicked out ? do i have to repeat 1st year ? is there a way i could go into 2nd year and take it math during the year ?
If anyone has been in this situation, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
I will be going to an academic advisor tmrw, but if anyone knows and understands my situation please help.
thanks

Well, since you didn't meet the conditions for acceptance into your program, you can't go into that program in September. But, failing one course doesn't necessarily mean you have to repeat first year life science. Assuming you completed the rest of the courses required for first year, they'll probably put you in level 2. Most likely they'll have you register in a different program, and then you can shadow the program that you want (if possible) and re-take the math course so that you have the prereq.

The class average is irrelevant to your situation, unless it leads to the prof shifting the grades up. It sounds like you don't know for sure yet that you failed, but it is good that you're planning for the worst-case scenario. Better to be prepared than caught totally off-guard.

You could try taking a math course online through LOP (letter of permission) or find a pre-approved equivalent course at another university. I would also talk to an academic advisor about this.
