Final Grade with decimal point?
While my grade report has not yet been updated, I received all the final marks for my assignments (and exam) in a course.
If my final grade in the course is 84.2, would this convert to an A or A- on the grading scale?

Any help from someone with experience would be a huge help!

That is unfortunately but probably an A-.

McMaster has a rule of truncating marks (rounding down), so if you're at 84.5, they'd bump you down to 84, except some will bump up.

But, you're at an 84.2, so I don't think you'd be bumped. But, it's up to the prof, they may feel generous. If there's anyway you can find any errors, that would probably be a better way of getting a bump, or if you know the prof does mark bumps, otherwise, it's unlikely.

That's definitely an A-.

The grading conversion includes decimal points; A- ranges from 80.0-84.9%.
If you do receive an A, it's because you were bumped (this does happen sometimes).

That's a 10, an A-...you are so close to 11 :(

Anyways, that is still a good mark! Congrats

Email your prof. It is likely they would bump you to an 85 for an 11.

Officially an A-, but check all assignments/exam for grading/addition errors. Talk to your prof too. If you did well on the exam, that should help your case.

This usually only happens if there was an error at some point. I've had it happen a couple of times but neither time did I approach the prof or IA, it was just done automatically once they realized the error.

biglandfarm says thanks to starfish for this post.

Just e-mail the prof and ask..my friend did that for a class and got bumped from an 11 to a 12, he was off by .6% or so I believe..if you know the prof on a somewhat of a good basis..that always helps too.

I approached a prof about an error once. Sometimes they fail to realize, especially if it was a mark addition error. The only errors they usually pick up directly are evaluation errors like the wrong option being chosen as correct on a scantron, ambiguous questions, or unanswerable questions.

Yeah I just meant that if they find an error they'll apply it to everyone without each person having to specifically ask for it.

hmm, for one of my classes, my final mark ended up being 89.9 (lol), and I got a 11. I'm planning on emailing the prof, but should that technically be a 12?

No, since a 12 starts at 90.0, it should technically be an 11.

Your mark will be an A-, which means 80 percent. So the other 4.2% is pretty irrelevant.
