You don't have to do readings, but the tutorials and group projects for those courses are a pain in the ass. Both of the first-year Economics courses are based entirely off of lecture notes, and Aplia as well for 1BB3. F*ckin' Aplia...

No more Aplia for 1BB3, at least not for us last semester.

My housemate's sister used it in BB3 in second term. Did you have O'Shaugnessey? It's not required, just strongly recommended (in that 50% of the test questions are taken directly from it). I don't think anyone actually ever uses it, and I'm pretty sure it was just a few lines in the course outline when I took it.

Sorry, what I meant was that it's no longer used for marks.
Yes I did have O'Shaugnessey and I did use Aplia myself. Just as you said, many tests questions came directly from the assignments.

I've gone through all of university so far doing minimal reading. I don't believe in reading textbooks unless the prof is absolutely terrible. I try to absorb everything in lecture. Why do I pay $500 to read a book that I also had to buy myself? That kind of defeats the purpose of teaching. HTH SCI 3I03. COUGH COUGH COUGH.......
"We COULD teach you, but you should just read the book"
Pretty much just paying tuition to get a grade -___-

What about social sci classes where professors say (I would assume), that the readings are imperative for success. I do not have too much experience with these courses. Anyone want to shed some light?
Sociology? Anthropology? Health-age?

Regarding Health & Aging, I took Hth Age 1BB3 last year, and it definitely requires readings and quite a bit of it too, i.e. about 20-30 pages or so per week. Nevertheless, it wasn't exactly a difficult class, but I was interested in the subject matter to begin with.. Check out the course review for more specifics.

All of those are full of readings, take the following with Dr Khan and your readings will be minimial:
Econ 2j03
Econ 2h03
Econ 2HH3
Econ 2D03(Note this course requires a fair bit of writing, however its very easy)
