How to get a 90% on math 1ls3 exam?
I know anything is possible, however aiming to get nothing less than a 90% on the exam seems very hard. and I know the answer is to practice practice practice ! however, if you have taken this course before, what would you recommend? Also as far as questions that ask definitions or explanations, what should you focus on because that is where i am really stuck ! please help ! i need this 90% on my deferred exam !

Please do not leave any rude or unrelated comments...only comment if you are sincerely trying to help. thanks !

There is no secret... Study Hard! Do old practice tests again, find some practice tests you havent done yet (Check the old 1ls3 pages, theres some here from 2 years ago buried in some thread)...

Good luck!

Practice with all the assignments and past tests in the courseware package (not sure if this is still part of the curriculum anymore, but they helped a lot). And I would go through the textbook and do every other question for each chapter to prepare. Once I felt like I was getting the hang of a concept and felt confident with it, I stopped and moved on to the next unit.

I'm in the same position lol, with the summerschool math exam next week. I have a bad avg in the 2 "best" tests so I need a decent/amazing final exam mark. I was going to do courseware practices, make sure you know the concepts, practice tests and old exams. ask dr. clements if you need help, I'm sure she'll help you!!
best of luck...to us both

The 27th is very far away, you have tons of time! I consider yself lucky if i have 4 days to study for an exam >_> Just practice the problems until you've mastered it all and you'll be fine.

Practice practice practice!

I spent every waking moment doing practice questions and did so many of them that I started dreaming about differentials and integrals. I also went to the TA and Prof for help whenever I didn't fully understand a concept, to the point where they got annoyed.

I got 90+ on my final.

Do the tests and assignments over and over and make sure you know why you get answer wrong. And start early, which you're doing so that's good

study. read carefully. and remember to write down every necessary detail. e.g. while doing integrals, you can have more than one variable, so if it's in respect to x, don't forget the dx at the end. that can cost you your 12.

Do the hard questions on the practice exam, the easy ones are waste of time to study for.

the biggest trap in math is doing the sample test and figuring you are ok. do OTHER problems, understand the concepts, then do the sample test under exam conditions. Blatantly memorizing how to do a question that looks like one on the sample will get you killed.

Last term, when I didn't understand some concepts (like integration), I watched a lot of PatrickJMT videos on Youtube regarding integration and such (that is when profs or TA weren't available). It REALLY helped me out! Of course as others have suggested, you have to do the sample tests and exams in the courseware and do the HARD textbook problems!
