Yeah.. they probably just haven't updated the signage. I know during my first three years food wasn't allowed and they were quite strict but the new University Librarian let up on the rules and such.. so unless they've backtracked it's a thumbs up.

And rollerblading in the library... how very... 1990's-esque hahaha

It's true, commons is open until 12am... but technically they "close" at 11pm since after that time all you can get are bags of chips, drinks and candy. Nothing that can fill you up properly.

Alright, so two weeks ago I sent an email to Hospitality that touched on the concern of students with regards to a 24/7 food service or perhaps one with an extended hours of operation. I did not receive any email back from Hospitality Services so I decided to go to the office myself a few days ago. I talked to the secretary there who informed the manager about the email. I was told that my email would have to go through the director of Hospitality Services before any further action can be taken. I should receive an email back from the director sometime this week and then I'll be able to set up a meeting with him to discuss this issue. I'll keep you updated...

Food is a problem on campus for residence and non residence. That's one of the things I really hate about the university. I wish they would do an entire overhaul of the food system at Mac. God it is so expensive.

One of my biggest concerns is that, at Commons, it is all junk food. Sizzles, the Chinese food place, the Pizza place - it's all fast food. The only place that's healthy is the most ridiculously expensive one. $8 for a plate of pasta???? The sandwich place was okay (health and price wise), but you can't eat sandwiches for every meal.
I'm not in first year. I didn't even live on residence in first year. But my boyfriend did 3 years ago and we were both so annoyed that the non-junk food was so expensive.

EDIT: And those little containers with like 5 grapes, 2 crackers and 2 pieces of cheese were over $2!! So expensive. You could buy a bag of grapes, a small block of cheese and a box of crackers for like 6 bucks. Like others have said, you could just go to Fortinos and buy this stuff, but it's a waste of your money since you already had to buy the meal plan.
