Think about it... employees who wear gloves are less likely to wash their hands because they're wearing gloves and furthermore, are less likely to change their gloves as often as someone who does't wear gloves washes their hands. (confused yet?)
I always seem to see gloved people brushing hair out of their eyes, or things like that, too. It does not guarantee cleaner food, by any means! I think it tends to do the opposite!

I had to argue with one of the employees, she had touched pork with the same gloves she used to get my halal meat. The employee eventually made me another, so cant complain

Hi guys,

This is an issue that comes up frequently at the IRC student dining committee. The reason workers at Pillars don't use gloves is because it is a less sanitary way to prepare food, as tauntobr said.

You can request that workers wear gloves if you prefer. The Hospitality managers make sure there are gloves available for employees so students can request.

Hopefully she internalised what she learned, and it won't happen to any more customers who follow the same ways that you do -- too bad you had to argue about it, though!

Isn't it better that they wash their hands frequently rather than just wearing gloves? I mean, you don't see people wearing gloves when things like SARS and swine flu are about.

Has Mac become so PC that I'm the only one that raises an eyebrow at that?

What a waste of food. Think about it this way, she touched pork before touching your Halal meat. Did she use the same knife to cut your food? Did she prep it on the same cutting board? Did she store it and stock it in the same fridge at the same time?

It's one thing for someone with an Allergy to make them redo something. That's not religious fundamentalism, that's wanting to stay Alive!

Tell me, do you refuse to use hand sanitizer because of the Alcohol? When you get a needle or blood work done, do you let them swab with Alcohol first? Would you refuse treatment at a Hospital because of all the Purel?

Would you shake the hand of a gay man? Sodomy carries the death penalty in Iran, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, UAE, Yemen, Mauritania and Somalia because of Sharia law.

To those of you who are very PC and offended by the culture clash I've unleashed remember that most of the time good things happen when cultures clash:

"In a more culturally confident age, the British in India were faced with the practice of “suttee” — the tradition of burning widows on the funeral pyres of their husbands. Gen. Sir Charles Napier was impeccably multicultural:

“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks, and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”"

- From the book: How the Scots Invented the Modern World

ew hairy meat. Gross.

If requested they will put on gloves. Apparently they have strict hand washing rules which I don't believe but yeh... just be nice ask them to put some gloves on before they handle your food. I don't really see how it helps though becuase either way they been digging through the lettuce, tomatoes, etc. with there bare fingers anway. I suggest going over to subway... way cheaper, much tastier!

"If" is the key word. I doubt they go through the same thing that Nursing students learn. "Washing" your hands for a period of time isn't enough, a certain technique must be used.

As I've said before, wearing gloves makes people wash their hands less, and employees who wear gloves don't change their gloves nearly as often as people wash their hands otherwise.

I'll take someone who washes their hands mediocrely over someone who wears gloves for 4 hours straight and doesn't clean them at all.

To put it simply: gloves are dirtier than hands.

I wasn't pro- or anti- gloves. I was just stating that they probably don't know how to wash their hands properly.
