Grad school
So, like...
what's the big deal about it?

All I know is that you need to be in an Honours (4 year) program, and that it's all prestigious and stuff.
gives you the title "doctor", means that you have a Ph.D.

but.. why?
What can you do with grad school?
How long is it?
Who would WANT to do grad school, i.e. what professions would require you to do so?
Should I do it?

Sorry for the lame questions, but I really have no idea. O_O
xD

Any info regarding this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Also note that you're only a 'Dr.' if you get a PhD, but if you get a masters you aren't a doctor.

To work in some areas (there is a ridiculously long list I'm not going to get into...) you need at least a Masters because a Bachelor's degree no longer cuts it.

This is the problem with everyone going to university. Our degrees aren't worth much.

Oh, thanks, lol!

So for a B.A. you go to undergrad school for three years?
and then for a Ph.D. you need to go to grad school for... how many years?
and how many for Masters?

and what's the difference between Ph.D. and Masters? amount of years?

Undergrad = 4 years
Masters = 1 or 2 years
PhD = 2 or 3 years

I think it's possible to go from Undergrad to PhD, but that's just a rare case.

That's true. The costs may outweigh the benefits in some cases now. All of a sudden, a trade doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

So you need to do all 4 years (Honours program) of undergrad,
then 2 years for Masters,
then another 3 years for a Ph.D?
WOW, lol. that's a LOT! O_O

Does anyone know what professions require which degrees?
I know to be a professor, you need a Ph.D, obviously.

I'd like to be a high school teacher. Which would I need?
Also, how long is teacher's college in Ontario?

To become a teacher, you just need to do an undergrad degree, and attend teachers college. However, if you'd like a higher rank such as a principle, department head, etc, you'd probably need to have a masters degree.

In regards to teachers college, you can find some useful information here:

Go to, 'Become a teacher' located on the left hand side.

You'd make a great math teacher, to be honest. :p
