I have been following this for a while! First with the Penguins, then with the Predators, now with the Coyotes!

Just give the man a friggin team, he will make a better owner then half those nuncles out there.

		 Here's the latest...

Jim Basillie and the NHL are in court right now awaiting a decision on weather or not to approve Basillie's bid to move the team to Hamilton.

The NHL wants no part of this because if Basillie does move the team to Hamilton, the Toronto Maple Leafs will sue the NHL for territorial rights.

Basically, the Toronto Maple Leafs are screwing Hamilton's chances of getting an NHL team.

Which is BS.... each team should have territorial rights to it's city limits, with everything else being wild. Each independant city should have the right to whatever professional sports it wants, provided the league and an owner can put a team there.

I HATE the Toronto Maple Leafs. Who do they think they are? This is all for money...don't they have enough already? They are afterall the richest team in the league. So does this mean that there won't be a team in Southern Ontario EVER because the Leafs will just sue the league?

To be fair, he can still get it; just because the NHL hates him doesn't actually matter.

I agree. In this case, the judge has to fulfill the needs of the creditors (which is his ultimate job). If the best case ends up being letting Balsillie buy the team, then he can rule in his favour.

This sure is making for an interesting story though... reminds me why I love law.

This would make one hell of a case study because of the way it combines politics, law, and business. Here's hoping for justice to be served

We just took another step closer to having an nhl team in Hamilton. all the other bidders have dropped out of the race. It's Basille vs. Bettman (NHL)... Basille has raised the price by 40M!!!

I think we might even pull this off! woohoo

I heard that too. Bettman isn't going down without a fight though. It's great news though!

That is beautiful news. I would love to watch a NHL game at Copp's Coliseum.
I got my fingers crossed!

One of my best memories was watching Canada play the US there IN the Canada Cup in '87. Would be awesome to see world class hockey there again.
