Having a job with OSAP
So I talked to OSAP and they wouldnt give me an exact number, but they said that if a student makes over 50$ a week, it MAY affect their OSAP.
I told them why in the hell, we couldnt earn more so I could pay them back more easily, and they're like, we understand. oi vey
1) Anyone else who has osap, how much do you work, and does it affect your OSAP?
2) Are there any good cash jobs in Hamilton so that I can make money without getting my OSAP changed?
3) any suggestions?

1. In Sept, I'll make 50 a week. I will be speaking to Financial Aid to determine whether or not my OSAP is affected.
2. Be a server or bartender. I'd tell you how much I've made but it was A LOT and I don't want that information available since anyone can read it.

Server's and bartenders make most of their money from tips -- which is not included as part of their income. Thus, OSAP is not affected. BUT, their hourly wage is much less than the normal minimum wage.

In 3 hours of work as a server, you have the potential to make about 200 bucks on a steady night.

During the year I will make 100 dollars a week MAX and thats before taxes. This summer I will make around 5,000 dollars. My OSAP was not affected. They say it MAY affect it just to cover their behinds because it IS a possibility but a very rare one. Remember there are a lot of things taken into consideration when estimating your OSAP.

So for the record, you print the work-study application form to make photocopies of everytime you're hired somewhere and hand it in to the Student Financial Offices?
But to apply for jobs you still have to go through OSCAR, no?
I'm really starting to hate this whole process.

You print off the McWork form and you hand it in to your employer during the interview proccess. If you're hired, they will give it over to the Financial Aid Office.
And yes, you still apply for jobs through OSCAR, is it working for you now? If not, contact ferreinm, she might be able to help you as she works with Career Services!
