I don't know about that, since I don't really know what you mean by 'good at math' - do you mean good at computation (as in math 1A/1AA, and parts of 1B)? I know plenty of people that do well in first-year 'plug-and-chug' calculus (1A/1AA) but have a lot of trouble with any degree of mathematical abstraction. The same case is particularly evident for math 1B03, which most people think is a bird course, but actually involves quite a bit of abstract algebra - for example, you could easily 12 that course by just thinking a determinant is 'ad-bc' and not realizing the amount of algebra required to really define the property.
