Health Sciences Course Advice
I'm entering my second year of BHSC. I wanted some feedback on the best time of the week to have tutorials for both Epidemiology and Health, Attitude and Behaviour. Did people find that tutorials towards the beginning or the end of the week were better or did it even matter?

Also did you feel the need to have textbooks for courses such as epidemiology and health, attitude and behaviour?

Any other advice about health sci second year courses? Thanks!

Hi Pat,

I'm not sure that there's necessarily a "best time of the week" to have tutorials for those courses - it probably depends more on you than on the course (e.g. whether you are a morning person or afternoon person. etc.). In any case, both of those courses have changed quite a bit since I took them (2007-08) so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I didn't buy a textbook for either course when I took them, though in general I wouldn't recommend buying a textbook for any course until the first week (when you receive the syllabus). Also keep in mind that the Epi textbook is available in the Health Sci Library - I found this helpful for the 2 or 3 times I needed to refer to it.

Second year will keep you busy with lots of group meetings, but I'm sure that you and your classmates will be fine. Best of luck.

Yea, I agree with the above post. It doesnt really matter when you take the tutorials. If anything, you may want to take the epidemeology tutorial a couple days after the lecture every week, so you have some time to work on the pre-assigned problems for the tutorials. The tutorials for Health, Attitude and Behaviour have some really fun activities, and honestly, those tutorials were the best part of my week in my 1st term last year.

As for the textbooks, there was no textbook required for Health Attitude and Behaviour last year. For epidemeology, I found the textbook helpful for some understanding of the material but all his test questions were directly from the lecture notes (although he would say that reading textbook is your responsibility).
