This year for welcome week 2007 Hedden reps are putting on a PowerHouse theme... looks exciting

Got Power? Hedden Hall definitely has got Power! We've been the PowerHouse of Welcome Week since 91' and we're charging up for another electrifying Welcome Week. Each year Hedden Hall utilizes this intrinsic energy that flows throughout the building to develop a strong and powerful community with electrifying spirit and 'long-lasting' hall pride that keeps going and going and going. Watch out for this years batch of Hedden Powerites because we are definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with! Heddenites should be prepared to expect a fun filled year full of exciting programs and the opportunity to make Hedden Hall their home away from home. So let's get powered up Hedden!

Not really, no. How it works throughout most of the building is that there are 3 bathrooms for a cluster of 5 rooms, which is 8-10 people. 2 of those bathrooms have showers, one just a toilet and sink. I lived there for 2 years, and it was very rare for all 3 to be in use at once. If they were, or if both showers were in use (which was a little more frequent), then you just walk a few steps down the hall to the next cluster of rooms and use their bathrooms - chances are the people living there won't be territorial or anything :-p

Many new students forget that everyone really has a different class and/or life schedule (some people prefer to shower at night, for example), and so bathroom conflicts aren't nearly as common as you might think.

so after seeing pictures of a triple room, and being letter c i'm getting scared about the whole storage issue.
there are 2 full size cabinets (for person a & b i assume), and one small one beside the loft or "c" bed.
am i going to end up with a tiny clothes cabinet?
will i have to bring my own storage?

are there rules of equality in rooms?

You may find your storage smaller than that of persons A&B; that being said, perhaps your roomies will share some of their space with you. There are no strict rules, however there are things you should avoid doing while in res as it just creates conflict (Article up soon!).

I brought some of my own storage stuff, as I found it helpful to organize my things and whatnot. You may want to get some too, as regardless of if you're living in res next year or off campus you will find it useful.

Hedden 157 is a Quad Room. There are four beds, no loft.

If you haven't done so already, check out this article: http://www.macinsiders.com/showthread.php?t=1722 2

And the amount of storage stuff you need to bring really depends on how much stuff you plan to bring.

If I'm an a and I want to be a c, and the c has not been assigned yet, can they change me? And what about secure places to store my laptop? I'm worried about it.

Technically you can sleep wherever you want. The only issue is the phone -- as your extention is tied to a specific phone which I'm pretty sure hooks up to a specific outlet.

so, i was just wondering if coffeemakers were allowed in the rooms, or if they are only allowed in the kitchenette in the common room?

Coffeemakers are actually sort of a grey area. It doesn't explicitly say in the Residence Code of Conduct that you can't have one in your room, but amongst many CAs it is often interpreted that any small appliance must only be used in the kitchenette. Ultimately, it would be the decision of the residence managers who would instruct their staff one way or the other.

In the RCC, minor offence h would be the one that (kinda) covers it:
(h) cooking with electric frying pans, ovens, microwaves,
etc. within individual residence rooms; using halogen
lamps or humidifiers; using heating elements (electrical
or otherwise) other than those supplied by McMaster
University & Housing and Conference Services;
It's that "etc." that's the killer :-p

Now, whether or not making coffee is considered cooking, well, that's open for interpretation too (then there's that whole "heating element" thing - does it refer mainly to space heaters (which is the bigger concern) or can that be applied to something that heats water, too?), Suffice it to say that many students keep coffeemakers and kettles in their rooms all year without any trouble. If your CA takes issue with it, then they'd likely just ask you to move it to the kitchenette. CAs aren't typically power-hungry megalomaniacs just itching to cite you for every little thing :-p
