Help finding a job.
Okay, I have a friend who needs a job, but he has certain requirements he has to stick to.

He cant work anywhere that requires a SIN number to work, or pay taxes or anything official like that. He, of course, will register everything properly and claim the income and pay the taxes, but he cant work in a place that is all formally registered right up front. So no McDonalds or Tims or anything. I am not saying illegal under the table jobs, obviously that would be dumb on a public forum. But are there any places were the employees are responsible for their own taxes and whatnot?

Can anyone think of work he could try and find that would fall under this sort of genre?

(the only thing I can think of is tutoring, or shoveling driveways)

What do you mean responsible for their own taxes? I assume no T4, yes?

It looks like they are looking at cash under the table jobs; AKA moonlighting. Here are some suggestions.

Why can't he work somewhere that requires a SIN? Those are free for all legal citizens in Canada. It only takes like 15 minutes to get one.

Your friend's best bet is working for cash. Best of luck.

That would be me.

Sometimes I have them.

Cold call is probably the best way, especially with catering companies. Word of mouth, making posters/utilizing kijiji/craigslist for the services etc.

That might answer your question as to why he can't work somewhere that requires a SIN.

I don't know if your friend would be interested in this but babysitting can be a decent way to make cash. It is not always steady if you do different jobs and it takes some effort to find babysitting opportunities but its always cash, no forms, no taxes. The main requirement is that you're responsible and can prove as much.

Not Exactly; I'm an international student and I was able to obtain a SIN based on the length of my student visa. Its not just for residents :S

I think anyone who is in the country for long enough is able to get a SIN. I'm sure international students are able to get SINs, since they are here for so long.
I can't think of a (legal) reason why someone wouldn't be able to get one.

This might have been just the one location, but the 2+1 (pizza store) back in my hometown paid under the table.

Maybe it's the same for all of the establishments?

I was implying that he might be illegal without actually saying so.

It is, but the person obviously needs help/money and we don't know why they can't get a legit job with a SIN and everything. Everybody's got a story.
