Heterosexual Students Club

Since we pay a portion of our tuition to the MSU every year, and the MSU can fund resources for homosexual students... I figured it'd be only fair if they funded a heterosexual students club as well...
Any thoughts?

Cause every other club is a heterosexual students club ..... blah blah blah
I guess no one told you that you are not allowed to be proud of being straight and wanting to associate with other straight people.
FYI white people are not allowed to be proud and associate with other white people either so no one make that mistake. |

I can pretty much predict how this is going to go.
Side 1: There is no reason why people can't be proud of being white or heterosexual. It's just reverse discrimination to say otherwise.
Side 2: Heterosexual/white pride has historical connotation. Also clubs and services for minorities are based on correcting past wrongs/culture (and we accept white/straight people!)/advocating against injustice.
Side 3: It's stupid to be proud of something you can't change.
Book it.

Further to arathbon's post, we do not have clubs or associations that refer to themselves as a blanket "skin colour" (i.e. black club [vs. African Caribbean Association], etc.), so the "why not a white club" argument is unfounded.
We have student clubs serving Serbian students, Polish students, Ukrainian students, German students - all of whom would be considered "white." All the cultural clubs serve to elucidate and promote heritage, traditions and culture. Unless you can build a mandate of "white culture" I think the white club idea is out of the question. How about a French Canadians club? or a European Canadians club?
Back to the heterosexual club, I think it's a plausible idea if you are not doing it to be ironic or douche-y, but please be ready to receive some backlash from the general student population (not to mention Diversity Services and other university departments). Not because you shouldn't be proud of your heterosexuality, but because a heterosexual club could only be perceived as something to "counter" services like the QSCC.
tl;dr
The QSCC, as part of its mandate, provides a safe space for individuals who are often ridiculed or alienated by their peers and family because they are homosexual/queer/bi/etc. Homosexuality is a major taboo for some cultures, and the QSCC helps these students realize that there is a large portion of the population just like them and that they are not alone.
When was the last time anybody was bullied/beat up for being heterosexual?

Everywhere around us is the 'heterosexual club'. We operate in a society that is driven by the assumption that all individuals are heterosexual. People do not need to feel threatened based on their heterosexuality, with the LGBTQ population it's a whole different story. There is a need for a 'safe space' (I use that loosely because there really is no such thing) to get that acceptance that is hard to find in a heterosexist society. So that's why we don't have clubs and whatnot for the 'dominant group.' I could say the same about why we do not have an association for able bodied students, white students, students between 18-65, etc.

The MSU funds all sorts of clubs, not just the homosexual club. The only reason they don't fund a heterosexual club is because it DOESN'T EXIST. If you really feel this is a problem you are more than welcome to try and start a heterosexual club, but I personally have no idea what you would at meetings...
Edit: the last round of applications were due last Friday. Next round is probably going to be next year.
