I think an actual gift would be better if you know and are close to the person. I just feel as if a gift card doesn't have any meaning behind it...
Totally agreed! It doesn't seem as thoughtful as going out of your way and getting an ACTUAL gift. Also, the McMaster gear stuff is a good idea. I know some people who have given their parents McMaster mom/dad shirts and whatnot, and they loved it.

Personally, I love giftcards, but they only really count in my eyes if it's for a store the person knows I absolutely love. And the price has to be an accurate reflection of the store itself. Like for instance: if someone gave me a giftcard for Chapters (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) or H&M (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), it can't be like $10. What on earth am I going to buy for $10?

Oh yeah, in that case then yeah! But that's provided you know what the person really likes in terms of stores and what not. But I'd only get the gift card if it was really last minute or I was really stumped in terms of what to get .
